Healing the sacral chakra

The sacral chakra is the second of the seven chakras....which marks the second week of my seven-week healing adventure! See last week's post to learn about & heal the first chakra right here

I'm writing this post at the end of the third week (which is the solar plexus chakra), but I can tell you that right off the bat, I noticed that the sacral chakra is an area that needs a lot of healing for me. All of the lower chakras have needed a lot of love & healing to be honest!

Funny little tidbit I realized: I've always said that orange is one of my least favorite colors (except for the orange hues in a sunset) and it so happens that the color associated with the sacral chakra is....ORANGE!! Coincidence??? Hmmm!

This chakra is the source of our creativity, our inner child, our emotional expression & our passion. If you've ever felt tired/fatigued, ever had kidney or bladder problems, weight gain around your abdomen that persists despite weight-loss efforts & PMS; if you've ever felt like you couldn't be true to yourself or couldn't express yourself fully (either emotionally or creatively or both), then this chakra needs some lovin' ;)

**About a month ago I woke up during the night with a horrible shooting pain in my mid back. My intuition told me that I needed to get myself to a doctor as soon as possible. Believe it or not, at age 26, I had a kidney stone. This was a huge wake up call that showed me my body was in need of a LOT of healing & after learning that the sacral chakra is not only the source of creativity, but also kidney function, I knew I had a lot of work to do.

Week 2: The Sacral Chakra

Sanskrit name, Svadisthana

Location: below the navel

Color: orange

Affirmation: I am creative, inspired, joyful & vibrant. I feel abundance all around me & within me.

Foods: orange foods! Oranges, papaya, canteloupe, mango, butternut squash, sweet potatoes. Strawberries, cinnamon, coconut & almonds

Activity: dancing, swimming, yoga with an emphasis on the lower abdomen & hip openers; being in or near water is also very healing as water is the element associated with the sacral chakra

Here are two examples of what I ate for healing my sacral chakra: the first is a mango banana nice cream & the second, an orange strawberry smoothie with an extra zing. Check out my Instagram @happilyhealthyashley for these recipes & to follow along my chakra healing!
